BEIJING, April 27, 2009 – China Institute, the New York City based cultural and educational nonprofit institution focused exclusively on China, opened the 5th Annual China Institute Executive Summit in Beijing, China this morning.

“We are extremely pleased to host our first invitation-only Executive Summit in China. The Summit brings together a select group of business executives from China and the United States for a forum of open and constructive dialogue focused on Chinese and American business partnerships” said Sara Judge McCalpin, China Institute President.“The 5th Annual China Institute Summit theme, Navigating the Changing Economy: Challenges, Opportunities and Sustainable Growth, is especially topical. Corporate business leaders, entrepreneurs, government officials and economists will share their expert opinions on diverse subjects relevant to contemporary China-U.S. business activities and the global influence of China’s rapidly growing economy. We are very pleased to feature CHEN Feng, Chairman, Grand China Air, ZHU Min, Group Executive Vice President, Bank of China, LEE Kai-fu, President, Google Greater China, Peter Rupert Lighte, Chairman, JP Morgan Chase Bank (China), and Frank Ninggao NING, Chairman, COFCO Limited as Keynote Speakers”.

After 30 years of diplomatic and financial relationships, Chinese and U.S. corporations are more committed than ever to joining together and turning their combined strengths into financial success while overcoming economic obstacles. The 5th Annual China Institute Executive Summit will explore various topics and issues including: Tempting Risks: China’s Overseas Mergers and Acquisitions, 700 Billion + 4 Trillion: Unpacking the Economic Stimulus Plans, Private Equity, Sustainable Development & Economic Growth, Rural China: An Emerging Market, Real Estate: Into the Post-Bubble Era, Human Resource Strategy Amid Uncertain Times, and Logistics and Transportation in China.

On April 26 at the China World Hotel in Beijing, China Institute unveiled the first phase of its China360 project — an innovative Educators’ Web Portal accessible via www.chinainstitute.org. This website has been developed and designed as an online community providing peer-to-peer information sharing among K-12* educators around the world who are interested in teaching about China or the Chinese language. Here, educators will find a one-stop destination for expert advice, multimedia resources, arts and culture materials, and opportunities for networking with educators across China, throughout the U.S., and around the world. Continuously updated, the project’s next phase will include an online distance learning platform offering professional development for Chinese language and culture teachers; this platform is expected to launch in early 2010 and will reflect an historic partnership between the Confucius Institute at China Institute and East China Normal University in Shanghai, widely recognized as one of the premier universities in China.
