| Since its founding in 1926, China Institute has worked to educate the American public about Chinese culture, history and contemporary life. We believe that the best way to build cross-cultural understanding and mutual respect between America and China is to foster recognition, appreciation and familiarity with each other’s heritage and people through language, humanities, arts and culture and other vehicles of educating the general public. We are entering into a critical period in the evolution of U.S.-China relations which will be significantly influenced by the degree to which future generations of Americans and Chinese are able to understand and communicate with their counterparts. As we prepare to expand the Institute to include projects of greater depth and scope to sustain this movement, we are dependent upon the financial support of organizations who share our belief in fostering the cross-cultural sensitivity of citizens and leaders in the 21st century.
