Since its founding in 1926, China Institute has been dedicated to educating the American public about Chinese culture, history and contemporary life. The Institute advances a deeper understanding of China in the belief that cross-cultural communication strengthens our global community. The education department achieves this mission through a variety of programs designed for teachers, students, and the general public of all ages.
China Institute is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York as a school of continuing education. The Institute’s School of Chinese Studies, founded in 1933, is the oldest educational center of its kind in the United States.
Whatever your age or level of familiarity with Chinese language or culture, China Institute’s education department will support your interest, and help you maintain a life-long engagement with China.
For Educators
Professional development programs for teachers is a critical component of China Institute’s education efforts. Over the years, through the courses and workshops we offer, hundreds of teachers nationwide have, in turn, been able to reach thousands of students, enriching their understanding of, and sensitivity to, Chinese culture, society, history, and language. For over 80 years, China Institute has been at the forefront of a concerted effort to promote a deeper understanding of China, and these teacher programs are a key reason why we continue in that leadership role today. |
